City's Bats Heat Up in 19-5 Home Win

Designated hitter Chris Barkley went 3-for-4 with five RBI and Ethan Workinger went 4-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored. Hector Carreon added three RBI off two doubles and Jorge Lucero had four hits in six at bats and came around to score twice.
San Diego City made a statement early with six runs off seven hits in the second inning to take a 6-0 lead. The inning was highlighted by a 2-RBI double from Carreon and an RBI triple from Workinger.
The Knights added another four runs to their lead in the bottom of the 3rd, the first of which came on a throwing error by Citrus' catcher. The next three came off a bases-loaded double down the left field line by Barkley that cleared the bases to give City a 10-0 lead.
Jack Early's only hit of the day came in the 4th inning when he led off with a solo home run to left field. Angel Morales, Carreon, and Workinger each hit RBI-doubles in that inning to help the Knights build an impressive 15-1 lead.
Citrus (6-10) would add two runs in the 6th and 8th innings, but the Knights also tacked on a run in the 6th off a Barkley single and three more in the 8th off a Nic Ayala sacrifice fly, a fielding error, and a Payton Caviar RBI single.
Starting pitcher Quinn Oliver allowed three hits and struck out three in four innings of work. Noe Delgado earned the win in his first appearance of the season after throwing two innings in relief.
The Knights will begin PCAC play on Thursday at Morley Field against Imperial Valley at 2 p.m.
