Freshmen Delph and Jones lead WEST in 50-40 win

Freshmen Delph and Jones lead WEST in 50-40 win
After outscoring West Hills-Lemoore 12-2 in the first quarter, the Wildcats turned up the defense to earn their fourth win of the year. Lauren Jones (Culver City) got going for the Wildcats connecting on 4 of 11 from the field to go along with 8 rebounds. Jones played all 40 for Head Coach Twan Herron's Wildcats.

The West defense proved to be too much early and often for the Eagles. The Wildcat defense held West Hills to 1 of 14 shooting in the 1st quarter (7%). West Hills scored their first basket with 6:21 remaining in the first and didn't score the rest of quarter. Sophomore Audrina Villela's (Carson) free throw with 3:11 left made it 12-2 West LA after one.

The Eagles weren't willing to go away so easily in the second quarter, outscoring WEST 14-11. However, the Wildcats extended their lead in the 3rd and 4th quarters. The Wildcats defense limited West Hills-Lemoore to only 10% shooting from the 3 point line, as the team from central California only shot 1 of 10. The agressive attacking offense of WLA led the Wildcats to reach the free throw 20 times in the last two quarters.

Freshman Tricia Delph scored 11 points to go along with 8 rebounds. The former Fairfax High product also connected in all 5 of her free throws, from the line. Ihana Alono, who scored a career high the day before against East LA, finished with 8 boards.

The win moves West LA to 4-4 on the year and WEST will face conference foe Santa Monica College, for the 2018 Comet Consolation Champiomship.
