Women's Volleyball Splits to Wrap Non-Conference Schedule

Fairfield, Calif. - The Solano women's volleyball team wrapped up non-conference play by splitting the Solano Classic #3. The Falcons swept West Hills Lemoore, but fell to No. 2 Feather River in three on Friday afternoon.

Set scores were 25-17, 25-17, 25-14 against West Hills Lemoore and 25-19, 25-21, 25-22 in the match against Feather River.

Against the West Hills Lemoore, freshman Sammy Brown led the offense with 10 kills, adding eight digs and a pair of aces. Freshman Dani Rydjord tallied eight kills with three aces, and freshman Chris Rigney Cruz earned six kills and a block. Sophomore Kailyn Kaiser paced the defense with 12 digs, while freshman middle blocker Gina Garlick earned four blocks.

"We were very pleased with the win," Solano women's volleyball head coach Darla Williams said. "Everyone got a chance to contribute and play. We are definitely ready and excited for conference play to start next week."

Rydjord posted a solid second match with an errorless offensive attack with 10 kills, adding eight digs. Brown was close behind with nine kills and six digs. Kaiser posted her second double-figure digs match with 10, while Garlick led the defense at the net with a pair of blocks.

"We stayed steady and even with [Feather River] for the entire match," Williams said. "It was an improvement form the last meeting with them at the Delta Tournament. If we can take this level of play with us into conference play, we will be looking very solid. This has been a great preseason, after being off the court since fall 2019. We got to compete with some of the best teams in Northern California and in the state. Now it's up to us to use what we have learned to win the Bay Valley Conference."

The Falcons (7-11) opens up Bay Valley Conference play on Wednesday, Sept. 29 at home against Alameda. Match time is set for 6 p.m. Fans are welcome, but masks are required.
