WHITTIER – Rio Hondo College picked up its biggest win of the season on Friday night, knocking off No. 10 state-ranked Pasadena College 3-1 in a South Coast Conference match at home.
The Roadrunners continued their impressive run through the SCC schedule and improved to 4-2. Rio Hondo is 7-5 overall and has won five of its last six matches.
Rio Hondo shocked PCC by taking the first set 25-22. The Lancers responded to even up the match with a 25-19 win in Set 2. But the Roadrunners closed out the victory 25-17, 25-23 to upset the visitors.
The Roadrunners totaled 48 kills on the night, led by 17 from sophomore Nadine Oronoz. She added 16 digs, a block and ace.
Maria Bejines also had a big match with 13 kills, 9 digs, 4 blocks, and 3 aces. Faith Lee posted a team-high 22 digs to go with 11 kills and 2 aces. And Faith Wada led Rio Hondo with 21 assists while coming up with 16 digs.
Rio Hondo returns to action on Wednesday (Oct. 19) at 5 p.m. when the Roadrunners will look to defeat another ranked opponent at No. 9 Mt. San Antonio College.
