KNIGHTS SPLIT SERIES WITH SISKIYOUS

WEED, Calif. – The Shasta College baseball team split two doubleheaders with College of the Siskiyous last week, winning 14-10 and losing 7-1 at home and winning 12-10 and losing 10-5 on the road.

Jaden Gorge has hit safely in all 10 games and went 7 for 17 in the series last week with three runs and four RBIs. Payton Jeffries went 6 for 15 with three runs, two doubles and two RBIs on the week while the Knights' AJ Davies was the only other player to have a hit in all four games.

THURSDAY

Shasta 14, Siskiyous 10
The Knights jumped out to a 7-0 lead after the first two innings, highlighted by a pair of two-run singles from Derek Ray. Siskiyous tied it up at 9 in the seventh inning but the Knights scored four in the eighth behind RBI singles from Hayden Hill, Jeffries and Griffin Williams' RBI double to pull away.

Shasta totaled 16 hits in the game with Keanu Mizuta leading the way, going 4 for 5 with a triple, double, an RBI and four runs. Ray was 2 for 4 with four RBIs and a run, Mason Wood was 2 for 3 with three runs, Max Nebel was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI and Williams had a pinch-hit RBI double. Starter Jay Mendez allowed four earned runs on 10 hits in six innings, Gorge struck out one in a hitless final inning of relief.

Siskiyou 7, Shasta 1 (7 inn)
The Knights struck first in the third on Gorge's RBI single but the Eagles took the lead with a three-run fourth and never let up. Shasta had four hits, one each from Gorge, Davies, Nebel and Jeffries. Dylan Foster struck out five, walked three and allowed four earned runs on three hits across four innings. Justin Purdom struck out two and allowed two unearned runs on three hits in three innings.

SATURDAY

Shasta 12, Siskiyous 10
The Knights scored three times in the top of the ninth to win. Mizuta scored on a wild pitch Jeffries and Nebel scored on a throwing error to win the game. Shasta had 13 hits with Wood leading the way on his 3 for 5 day with two RBIs and two runs. Gorge was 2 for 5 with an RBI and a run, Jeffries had two doubles and scored once, Davies was 2 for 4 with two runs, Mizuta was 1 for 4 with a double, two runs and two RBIs, Joe Fox and Nicholas Newton each had a double. Wood got the win, throwing 0.2 innings of no-hit ball in relief and Foster got a one-inning save, striking out three batters and allowing one hit. Nebel didn't factor into the decision after allowing three earned runs on eight hits across six frames to get the no decision.

Siskiyous 10, Shasta 5 (7 inn)
The Knights took a 4-3 lead after scoring four in the fourth, highlighted by RBI singles from Nebel, Jeffries and Ethan Williams. But Siskiyous tallied five in the bottom half of the frame to pull away. Gorge was 3 for 4 with two RBIs, and Jeffries was 1 for 2 with an RBI and a run. Brady Munson threw 3.2 innings in his start, giving up eight runs – five earned – on nine hits with two strikeouts and four walks. Purdom struck out three and walked one while giving up two earned runs on one hit in 2.1 innings of relief.

Shasta (5-5) hosts Butte College Thursday and goes to Butte on Saturday.
