Men's Soccer Drops Series Against Sequoias

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Men's soccer continued the abbreviated Spring I season by dropping a pair of contests in a weekend series against College of the Sequoias, falling 3-2 in game one at home and 5-2 on the road.

In game one, the Giants jumped out to a hefty three-goal lead early after netting one shot in the first half and two in the second half. Juan Montelongo got Hancock on the board off the assist from Sean Soltan in the 70th minute. Bryan Gomez cut the deficit again in the 90th minute with an unassisted goal, but the Bulldogs were unable to knot the score before time expired. Matt Martinelli suffered the loss in the box for AHC after recorded four saves and allowing three goals through 90 minutes of play.

Offensive action was heavy early on in game two for both sides, as the two teams combined for five goals in the opening frame. Montelongo notched an early unassisted goal in the first three minutes of play to put Hancock on the board, followed by an unassisted goal from Gomez just 10 minutes later to double the lead. Goals for the Giants in the 14th and 27th minutes tied the contest before the Sequoias claimed a one-goal advantage in the 39th minute. COS was able to extend its lead in the second half with a pair of unanswered shots that found the back of the net in the 81st and 84th minutes. Martinelli led the Bulldogs in the box again with four saves but surrendered a loss.

The Bulldogs are set to return to action for their final two-game series of the season on Thursday, April 1, at home against Antelope Valley College before venturing to AVC the following day.
