Dons Complete Sweep of GWC with 9-0, 16-4 wins on Friday

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. - In the opening week of the 2021 California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) softball season, the Santa Ana Dons completed a four game sweep of the Golden West Rustlers, capping it off with 9-0, 16-4 wins in Friday's double-header.

Following an impressive start in Wednesday's opener, the Dons continued to stay sharp as they shut out the Rustlers 9-0 in five innings in game one of the day. Emily Rosas was dominant in her first start of the season, throwing five scoreless innings and striking out six. The sophomore gave up just two hits in her return to the mound.

Santa Ana's bats were hot from the start, scoring five runs in the top of the first. After a lead-off triple by Andrea Uriarte the Dons put the pressure on as Airilin Ramirez and Jordan Westerfield drew walks to load the bases. SAC cashed in on the opportunity with singles from Iyari Ramirez and Shelby Macias followed by a double from Cecilia Sanchez to make it a 5-0 lead.

The Dons cruised the rest of the way, scoring four more runs to win after five innings of play.

Game two had a similar outcome as the Santa Ana offense posted big numbers, rallying for 16 runs on 16 hits, ending the series in another five inning game. Aspen Kyles earned her second win of the year with three innings of work, striking out one and giving up two earned runs. Rosas came in to relieve, recording a couple more scoreless innings.

Santa Ana Softball will be back in action next week as they match up against the Fullerton Hornets (4-0). FC swept Orange Coast in their first series, making the upcoming series a battle of undefeated teams.

Game one and two will be hosted at Santa Ana College on Wednesday (4/21) starting at 1:00 p.m. No spectators will be allowed due to state restrictions but fans can follow along with live stats at sacdons.com as well as the live stream on Youtube at SacDons Athletics.
