SANTA BARBARA – The SBCC beach volleyball team had another undefeated week hosting a pair of WSC teams on Friday, taking all 10 sets against Santa Monica and edging out Ventura 3-2 in the second match of the day.
"We had a great week of practice in preparation for Friday," SBCC head coach Ariana Garner said. "We made a few pair changes and focused on being the best teammates we could be for one another. Our energy for both matches was fresh and electric. We knew it was going to take a full team effort, from top to bottom to beat a very good Ventura team and the girls showed up and showed out. It was so amazing to see our pairs play for each other and elevate one another."
The Vaqueros (13-1) cruised through the first match against Santa Monica (3-11), only being pushed to extra points one time but coming up with a perfect sweep.
Later in the day, they got a rematch against Ventura (13-2), which handed SBCC its first loss of the season two weeks prior. The pairs of Olivia Medina/Emma Crabbe, Jacelin McKie/Karoline Ruiz and Irey Sandholt/Paige Rudi came away with a trio of tough wins to seal Santa Barbara's fourth straight win.
1s pair Medina and Crabbe won both of their sets by two points, including going 23-21 in set two. After taking the first set by 10, McKie and Ruiz were forced to a decisive third and pulled it out with a close 16-14 win. Sandholt and Rudi's match was won more comfortably, as they took both sets by at least five points.
SBCC continues its season with a trip to Ventura next Friday, Apr. 7 to face Moorpark and Bakersfield.
