AVC Baseball outlasted the LA Mission Eagles 13-11 in game one of their three-game conference series. One unearned run in the 1st inning blemished an otherwise promising beginning for starting pitcher Matt Toledo. With Toledo pitching well, the Marauders scored two runs in the bottom of the 1st when William Joseph recorded an RBI groundout, and Nate Scott hit an RBI single, bringing home Ariv Camacho.
AVC opened up a 7-1 lead after scoring 4 unearned runs and 1 earned run in the 2nd inning. Mason Johnson scored after a double from Joe Uribe, and Uribe scored after Josh Nuno reached first on an error. Zach Terry scored after Ariv Camacho flied out to right field. William Joseph hit an RBI triple to score the only earned run of the inning. He then scored on a passed ball.
The Eagles stayed in the game after posting a run in the 4th inning and 2 runs in the 5th inning. AVC responded in the 6th inning when Zach Terry singled to score Uribe. An LA Mission home run in the 7th made it 8-5. The Marauders answered with 3 runs in the 7th and another 2 in the 8th. Nate Scott and Nathan Duarte hit RBI singles while Mason Johnson scored a sacrifice RBI. Ariv Camacho's 2-RBI double stretched the lead to 13-5 in the 8th. Camacho finished with 2 hits and a team-high 3 RBI. William Joseph (2-for-4) and Nate Scott (3-for-5) had 2 RBI apiece, while Nathan Duarte and Joe Uribe each ended with 2 hits and an RBI.
LA Mission rallied to score 6 runs in the 8th, but AVC was able to hang on with Ethan Wendell on the mound. Sam Maudsley also contributed two innings on the mound. The series will shift to LA Mission for game two on 4/21 and then back to AVC for game three on 4/23.
