Citrus College struck first but couldn't hold on in a 3-2 loss at San Bernardino Valley College Friday afternoon.

The Owls slip to 1-2 on the year, while the Wolverines improve to 1-3 overall.

Five Owls had hits in the game – Leah Morales, Jasani Zavalza, Andrea Andujo, Desiree Loza, and Alexis Cordero – with three of them coming in the first inning.

Morales led the inning off with a bunt single, before stealing second and third to put herself in scoring position. Zavalza joined her on base with four balls and proceeded to steal second. The Wolverine catcher let the ball get past her, allowing Morales to score and Zalvalza to advance to third.

SBVC managed to get the next two Owls out, but Loza singled up the middle to send Zavalza home, 2-0. Citrus looked to keep the two-out rally going and loaded the bases, but the Wolverines got out of the jam with only two runs for the visitors.

The Wolverines tied the game in the bottom of the third and took the lead with one run in the sixth before shutting down the Owls in the top of the seventh to secure the 3-2 result.

Citrus has a busy week next week, playing at Saddleback College on Monday and Chaffey College on Wednesday, before hosting Golden West College on Friday. All three games are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. starts.
