(Lemoore, CA)  Despite a valiant 4th quarter effort, the Mt. SAC Mounties Women's Basketball Team (25-4) finished their 2022 campaign with a loss to #4 North seed, College of the Sequoias (COS) (24-6) in the eight team, California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Women's Basketball State Championships.

The Mounties entered the tournament, held at West Hills College Lemoore (Lemoore, CA), as the number one South seed, looking for their unprecedented ninth (9th) CCCAA State Title.

COS took advantage of Mt. SAC's slow start out of the gate, taking a 19-14 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter didn't fair much better for the Mounties, as COS extended their lead to 16 early on, before finishing the first half with a 10 point, 37-27, lead.

The Mounties shot a mere 23.7% from the field, 22.2% from the 3 point line and 53.8% from the free throw line.  Savanna Norfleet led the Mounties, at the half, with 8 points.

The start of the second half was a continuation of the Mountie woes that allowed the Giants to extend their lead by up to 19 points.  With 4:22 remaining in the quarter and the score at 46-30, the Mounties roared back with 14 consecutive points.  They finished the 3rd quarter with 46 points and cut the lead to a mere 5 points (46-51).

The Mounties momentum continued in the 4th quarter.  Within 27 seconds, Mt. SAC quickly scored 6 points to take the lead.  From that point on, a tight back and forth contest between the two teams ensued.

With 1:25 left, Point Guard Kamesha Moore sank a 3-pointer to tie the score at 64.

Three Mountie fouls, allowed the Giants to earn 3 points (3 out of 6) at the free throw line and take the lead by two, with 29.9 seconds left in the game.

A quick Mountie basket by Kamesha Moore, brought the score to 66-67 and a charge taken by Minerva Guevara-Goss, gave the Mounties the possession with 18.3 seconds left.

A jump ball call, returned the ball back to the Giants and after a Mountie foul, the Giants responded with 2 points at the free throw line.  With 3.9 seconds left in the game and the possession, the Mounties were unable to score, giving the Giants a 69-66 upset win.

Mt. SAC finished the game shooting 29.3% from the field and 15.8% from the three point line.  Reserve guard Kamesha Moore led the team with 22 points, while guard/forward Allyah Cartajena, also in double digitis, scored 10 points and led the team in rebounding with 18.

Congratulations to Head Coach Brian Crichlow, assistant coaches Zack Hope, Darryl Kennedy, Carsandra Taylor, Shahana Zeigler, Lauren Ervin and the Mounties, who finish another season with an incredible overall record of 25-4, a South Coast Conference North Division Championship and another state championship elite eight appearance.
