Beavers Lose Slugfest to Sierra

BEAVERS LOSE SLUGFEST TO SIERRA

The American River College offense had been struggling as of late but they came alive on Tuesday- belting out 13 hits and scoring 8 runs against Sierra College but it was not enough as the team fell 11-8 to the Wolverines.  Freshman RHP Connor Timmins (East Nicolaus) struggled, walking 5 in just an inning and a third- allowing 5 runs along the way.  The Beavers offense came to the rescue however and scored one in the first and three in the 2nd inning to keep the game close.  Freshman LHP Anthony Ocanas (Woodland) came on in relief and did a good job of keeping the game close as he allowed a run in the 3rd but then blanked the Wolverines in the 4th and 5th.  During this time ARC scored 2 more in the 3rd inning to tie the game at 6, then took the lead in the 5th with a pair of runs.  With the Beavers up 8-6 in the 6th Sierra tied the game on a couple of unearned runs.  After a leadoff walk by Ocanas in the 7th then a fielders choice that did not yield an out, Sierra managed to take the lead after sophomore closer Christian Lucero (River City) came in.  Lucero got a fielders choice ground out which gave Sierra the lead and a two out single extended the Wolverines lead to 10-8.  Sierra tacked on a run in the 9th off of Lucero.  The Beavers had several players with multi-hit games and multi-RBI games.  Leading the way was sophomore 1B Bryce Sidler (Oakmont) who had three hits and an RBI.  He leads the team in hits for the season.  Sophomore RF Michael Grijalva (Ponderosa) had a pair of hits and 3 RBI on the day and an assist from left field as he gunned down a Sierra batter trying to stretch a single into a double.  The teams will meet at Sierra College on Thursday.
