Softball Splits Doubleheader Against Moorpark   

 

The No. 6 Long Beach City College Vikings split the doubleheader against Moorpark on Friday afternoon. The Vikings fell 5-1 in the first game, but then came back to win the second game 7-3.

In the first game, the Raiders were on the board first with three runs in the first inning, then two more in the second and sixth innings. The Vikings anwered back in the bottom of the sixth with freshman pinch runner Jasmine Delgado scoring on a wild pitch and finished the game with the 5-1 loss.

In the second game, freshman pitcher Olivia Ramirez (5-1) earned the win in the circle by only allowing the Raiders to two earned runs on five hits in four innings of work. Sophomore Daisy Torres finished the game in the final two innings with only allowing two hits.

Sophomore third baseman Illeana Rivera blasted a bomb to left field for an RBI double to get the Vikings started. Then freshman right fielder Gladys Garcia scored in Rivera. Freshman second baseman Jennifer Aguilar and freshman center fielder Alia Marquez were next to slide across the plate to bring the Vikings lead up to 4-0 in the bottom of the second.

The Raiders answered back with three runs in the fourth and fifth inning, but Rivera was scored in again by Garcia to extend the Vikings lead to 5-3 in the bottom of the fifth. Garcia and Aguilar finalized the Vikings' final two runs and ended the game with the 7-3 win.

The Vikings will be back in action on Tuesday, April 5 against East Los Angeles College at Long Beach City College at 3p.m.
