SHASTA SPLITS GVC MATCHES, IMPROVES TO 2-1 IN CONFERENCE

REDDING, Calif. – The Shasta College volleyball team split its two Golden Valley Conference matches last week, sweeping Lassen before falling to Butte in four sets on the road.

The Knights won at Lassen 25-17, 25-9, 25-12 behind 15 kills from freshman Presley Hamilton on 19 attempts. Sophomore Jennifer Troxclair put away nine kills while freshman Sarah Ault dished 29 assists. Sophomore Aliyah Rosado-Cruz aided in the victory with a team-best 17 digs and freshman Jordan Mewhirter racked up five service aces.

Against Butte, Shasta won the third set to stay alive but couldn't overcome the Roadrunners on the road, falling 25-16, 25-13, 25-23, 25-16. Troxclair had 13 kills, Hamilton registered seven kills and freshman Emma Friar had four kills. Ault totaled 27 assists, sophomore Olivia Sladek had four blocking assists and Rosado-Cruz totaled a season-high 34 digs.

Shasta moves to 2-1 in conference play and 10-7 overall and hosts College of the Redwoods on Wednesday for its first GVC home opener before traveling to Quincy to take on the second-ranked Feather River Golden Eagles on Friday.

In last week's state Top 25 poll, the Knights are receiving votes but are listed as a bubble team along with Butte.
