Four West Valley tennis players - Zeynep Aynaci, Sonya Hu, Abigail Prokter and Seraphina Vossen - qualified for the CCCAA NorCal regional championships with good showings in the Coast Conference Championships last weekend in Saratoga. The host Vikings were well-represented on Championship Saturday as Vossen competed in the singles semifinal and teamed with Prokter in the doubles championship.

Vossen stormed into the singles semifinal, dropping only a single game in a pair of round-of-32 and round-of-16 wins. After reaching the semifinal with a walkover quarterfinal win over Viking teammate Aynaci, Vossen fell to eventual champion Zoe Olmos of Chabot in straight sets.

Prokter and Vossen reached the doubles championship with trio of wins and then, after Olmos dispatched Monterey Peninsula's Mikayla Chassion 6-1, 6-0 to win the Coast singles title, took on Olmos and Julie Santiago in the doubles championship. The Chabot pair won the championship with a straight-set win.

Aynaci, Prokter and Vossen all qualified for both singles and doubles in the NorCal tournament. Aynaci will also team with Hu in doubles at NorCals. Aynaci/Hu won their round-of-16 match and then defaulted out to avoid playing Prokter/Vossen in the semifinals.

Hu reached the singles round-of-16, as did Brynn McKenzie, who also teamed with Natasha Sackx to reach the round-of-16 in doubles.

The 2022 Coast All-Conference team was announced in a Thursday pre-match ceremony. Prokter and Vossen were named to the All-Coast team and Viking mentor Lauren Hickey was named the Co-Coach of the Year with Chabot's Rick Morris.

The CCCAA NorCal Men's and Women's Tennis Regional Championships are Friday, April 29 at the West Valley College Tennis Complex. First serve is 8:00am.
