Taking on visiting Santiago Canyon College on Saturday in a non-conference game, the Cerritos College softball team was limited to just five hits in a 4-2 loss. The Falcons (8-7), who scored both of their runs in the third inning, saw only one other runner advance past first base in the game. The team will resume South Coast Conference play on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. against Mt. San Antonio College at Nancy Kelly Field.

Trailing 1-0 heading into the bottom of the third inning, Cerritos had runners at first and second base with one out after sophomore outfielder Alyssa Capps (Downey HS) reached on a fielder's choice and sophomore second baseman Alyssa Sotelo (El Rancho HS) drew a walk. Freshman outfielder Jazmine Macias (La Mirada HS) then stepped up and laced a double, which brought home both runners. Freshman designated player Maddy Guillen (La Puente HS) kept the inning alive with a two-out single, but relief pitcher Brooke Owens got sophomore Miranda Diaz (California HS) to ground out for the final out.

The Hawks (7-10) scored three times in the top of the fifth inning to regain the lead. Sophomore starting pitcher Samantha Islas (Roosevelt HS) allowed a single and two-run home run, followed by a single before coming out for sophomore Courtney Callison (Santa Fe HS). Santiago Canyon took advantage of a pair of walks and a single to account for their third run of the inning. Freshman Reanna Carranza (El Rancho HS) tossed the final two innings and retired six of the seven batters she faced.

In the sixth inning, Cerritos had runners and first and second base when Guillen led off with a walk, followed by a single from Diaz. However, neither runner could be advanced and the Falcons were turned away.
