Pirates edge West L.A. 20-17 for second straight win

LOS ANGELES -- The Orange Coast College football team rallied from a 14-3 deficit to pick up a 20-17 Metro League win at West Los Angeles College on Saturday night.

J.D. Rafkin threw for 192 yards and two touchdowns on 17-of-30 passing, while the combination of J.P. Segura-Queijeiro, Rafkin and David Hernandez rushed for 126 yards on 27 carries, helping the Pirates to their first two-game win streak since Weeks 3-4 of the 2015 season.

Rafkin did a great job of spreading the wealth as he connected with TEN different receivers throughout the game, including Edwin LaCrosse, who led the team with five receptions and a touchdown. Jamaal Fisher made the most of his one catch has he connected with Rafkin on a 43-yard touchdown late in the second quarter to bring Coast to within four at 14-10 just before halftime. Rafkin's 18-yard TD strike to LaCrosse came midway through the third quarter and it gave OCC a 17-14 advantage. Kicker Zach Grisotti, who opening Coast's points with a 29-yard field goal in the first quarter, closed out their scoring with a 37-yard field goal to make it 20-14. West L.A. drove down to the OCC 36-yard line on its final drive of the night, but the Pirate defense held from there.

Coast then used Segura-Queijeiro to pound out first downs and run the clock down the rest of the way to preserve the victory.

WLAC's Keeshawn Johnson had 158 rushing yards on just nine carries and added five catches for 42 yards. Quarterback Cassell Wiggins threw for 190 yards and a touchdown on 21-of-36 passing.

Leading the defense for the Pirates was Nick Koclanakis, who racked up nine tackles (eight solo) and Jake Hall, who had six tackles and a crucial pass breakup on the Wildcats' final play of their final drive.

OCC will wrap up the season on the road with a makeup game at Santa Barbara City College, set for Friday night at 5 p.m.
