Eagle Offense Erupts for Nearly 700 yards in Win Over Victor Valley

The MSJC football team won their fifth straight game on Saturday as their offense put up 681 yards on their way to a 54-26 home win over Victor Valley.

Victor Valley started Saturday afternoon's contest at Carl Qunadt Stadium by putting together a 9 play 53 yard drive that took over 6 minutes off the clock to score the day's first touchdown.  The Eaglese responded on their opening drive by going 62 yards in just 2:43 to to cut the Rams lead to 7-6.  Sherod White capped the drive with a one yard TD run, Devan Freedland connected on 3 of 4 passes on the drive with the big one being a 22 yard pass to Taliq Brown to set up the score.  MSJC took their first lead of the game in the second quarter when Robert Coleman got across the goal line from a yard out to make the score 12-7, MSJC had their extra point attempt blocked for the second time.  The Rams would answer to take their only other lead of the game with 5:46 to go in the second period on a 31 yard touchdown pass from Brandon Wingle to Hosia Stokes. After a successful extra point try the Rams led 14-12.

The Eagles would respond by scoring the next 22 points of the game to take command.  Just before halftime Rashoud Shelton caught a 35 yard TD pass from Freedland and after Coleman ran in a two point conversion MSJC led at the half 20-14.

The second half would see MSJC push the lead tp 34-14 after Matthew Vandenburg caught a 3 yard scoring pass from Freedland and White would score again on a 5 yard run.  Victor Valley would close the gap to 34-20 with just over 2 minutes to go in the 3rd period.  The Rams then capitalized on a poorly executed quick kick by the Eagles and ran the punt back 72 yards to cut the lead to 34-26.

MSJC answered by scoring the final 20 points of the game over the final 12 minutes.  Taylor Tosches opened the late Eagle scoring when he took a pass from Coleman 46 yards for a touchdown, that was followed just two minutes later by a 59 yard run by White that made the score 46-26.  The Eagles final score of the day came when Coleman and White hooked up on a 21 yard pass with 6 minutes to play.

Freedland finished the day 14 of 18 passing for 227 yards and 2 scores while Coleman went 11 of 17 for 176 yards, he also had 2 touchdown throws.  White had a huge day as he rushed for 135 yards and 3 TDs on 16 carries and also added a fourth score on a reception.  Tosches had 4 catches for 127 yards while Shelton finished with 3 receptions for 64 yards as 10 different Eagles caught passes.

Hunter Rapolla had a team high 7 total tackles on the day for the MSJC defense, Alonta Orange added 6.  Kelvin Davis and Chad Ortega each had a sack as the Eagles recorded 9 tackles for loss in the game.

The win was the Eagles fifth straight and kept them perfect on the field this season.  MSJC is 2-0 in American Mountain Conference play and will travel College of the Desert on Saturday night for the 53rd Annual Palms to Pines Trophy game.  Saturday's game in Palm Desert is set to start at 6 pm.
