Beach Volleyball Falls to University of Nebraska

After splitting their last two games with a victory against Fullerton College and a loss against Mt. San Antonio College, the SD Mesa women's beach volleyball team were back in action on Thursday facing off against The University of Nebraska at Grossmont College.

Even though the final tally was 5-0 in favor of the Cornhuskers, the game was a lot closer than what the score reflected.

The best match came from the #3 slot where Isabelle Bakken and Nicole Eden just fell short in the third and final set 13-15 to Nebraska's Ally Batenhorst and Bergen Reilly.

The tandem of Sophia Jarosz and Tia Mendiola had a hard fought battle against Bekka Allick and Lexi Rodriguez. Both sets were extremely close with Nebraska pulling off the win 13-21, 19-21.

Another battle that could have gone either way was at the #5 slot. Kaila Keovilaysane and Izzy Restate dropped a close 21-23, 16-21 to Maisie Boesiger and Andy Jackson.

"Every team put up a battle against Nebraska," states assistant coach Flavia Virgili. "There were battles across the line-up, including a split at the #3 slot. We had opportunities, we just were not able to take advantage of them at the right time."

The Cornhuskers beach volleyball program was founded in 2013, and this year's squad is on the verge of eclipsing their previous record of 12 wins in 2019.
