SHASTA SWEPT BY BUTTE IN HOME DOUBLEHEADER

REDDING, Calif. – The Shasta College softball team lost a home doubleheader to Butte College on Thursday, falling 15-0 in five innings and 14-1 in the nightcap.

In the opener, the Knights gave up four runs in the opening inning and the Roadrunners pulled away with a nine-run fourth. Shasta's two hits came from Autumn Giannini and Whitney Carnes while Madeline Nightingale drew a walk and stole a base. Kaylie McDaniel took the loss, striking out three and walking one while allowing 14 earned runs on 20 hits in five innings.

Shasta scored in the bottom of the first inning on Khloe Forrister's RBI double, plating Shelbe Cappello. But a two-run single from Trinity Markham in the top of the second gave the Roadrunners the lead for good. Shasta tallied seven hits, two of which came from McDaniel, who went 2 for 3. Giannini, Carnes, Madisen Borek and Ashley Rauch each hit a single. Carnes took the loss, striking out six, walking four and allowed 11 earned runs on 12 hits in seven innings.

The Knights committed seven errors across the two games and have lost 15 straight games. Shasta plays at College of the Siskiyous on Tuesday and at Redwoods on Thursday.
