Sophomores Zaire Best and Zaiah Luna-Calvin posted triple-doubles to lead the City College of San Francisco women's volleyball team in a 3-1 (25-17, 21-25, 25-20, 25-20) loss to visiting Merced College on Wednesday.

The short-handed Rams squad is 0-4 overall this season, but picked up its first set victory of the year against Merced.

Best led the Rams with 19 kills. She added 20 assists and 17 digs for her triple-double. Luna-Calvin totaled 17 kills and paced CCSF with 21 assists and 19 digs.

"Zaire and Zaiah both played a well-balanced match," said CCSF head coach Saga Vae. "With only six players and a lack of team experience, they take on a lot of responsibilities on the court. Our goal for preseason is to have our starters step up to their positions and be prepared for a strong conference."

April Afalava contributed 4 kills and 6 digs while Sam Fogel chipped in with 7 digs.

CCSF returns to the court on Sep. 28 when the Rams travel to Sacramento City College for a 4 p.m. non-conference match.
