Owls Battle Marauders in the Rain

Citrus College battled Antelope Valley College and the rain Thursday afternoon but fell just short in a 5-3 loss.

The Owls slip to 11-12 overall and 4-4 in Western State Conference action, while the Marauders improve to 12-10 on the year and 5-2 in conference.

Citrus struck first with a run in the bottom of the first off a Marissa Gallegos RBI single, but the visitors tied the game in the top of the third and took the lead in the fourth.

The Owls responded in the bottom half of the inning with two runs to jump back in front 3-2. Gallegos led the frame off with a hard-hit base hit to second before making her way to third on a ground-rule double from Samantha Meyndert. Alexis Cordero drove one run in with a single to left before Meyndert came home on a grounder from Paige Horvat.

The Marauders battled back, however, and scored six runs in the sixth and another in the seventh to secure the 5-3 victory.

Due to the weather lately, Citrus' schedule has shifted a bit but the Owls are slated to take on Golden West College on the road on Monday at 2:00 p.m.
