LONG BEACH – A penalty kick shootout decided who would advance in Saturday's No. 6-seeded Long Beach City College and No. 11 Rio Hondo College Southern California Regional Playoffs second-round game.
After 120 minutes of scoreless soccer, Long Beach came out on top 4-2 in the shootout to earn its spot in next week's Round 3 playoff game.
The Vikings will travel to No. 3 Fullerton College for a 2 p.m. playoff game on Tuesday (Nov. 22). The Hornets were a 2-1 winner over No. 19 Cuyamaca College in its second-round contest.
Long Beach, now 8-5-9, will face Fullerton (14-4-4) for the first time this season. The winner will advance to play either No. 2 Oxnard or No. 7 Golden West College in Round 4.
Two more wins are needed by Long Beach to advance to the 2022 CCCAA State Championships on Dec. 2 & 4 at American River College in Sacramento.
