Owls Fly Past Wildcats

Citrus College bounced back Wednesday with a 3-0 victory over West LA (25-23, 26-24, 25-14).

The Owls snapped a three-match losing streak and improved to 7-9 overall, 2-3 in Western State Conference action. The Wildcats fell to 4-11, 1-5 in conference.

Delaney Tate led the Owls with 16 kills and had 15 digs for the double-double. Faith Evaro was unstoppable, finishing with nine kills with just one error on 16 attempts to finish the night hitting .500. Kalin Greene had seven kills for Citrus and Destiny Guzman had two blocks. Maritza Sanchez dished out 35 assists.

Defensively, Aniya Smith posted 13 digs and three aces, while Savannah Austria added another 11 digs.

The first two sets had some back-and-forth action and Citrus even found itself trailing late in both sets.

Down 23-21, the Owls called a timeout and regrouped for four-straight points to take the first set. Tate had two kills in the run, which also saw two errors from the Wildcats.

West LA reached set point first, holding a 24-20 advantage before Tate turned the tide to put Sanchez at the service line. Citrus scored six unanswered points to take the second set 26-24 and take back momentum in its hands.

The Owls saved their best set of the net for last as they held the Wildcats to a negative attack percentage (-.065) while boasting a .235 clip themselves.

Citrus jumped out to a 7-2 lead to force a West LA timeout.

The Wildcats managed to cut the scoring briefly, but the Owls were unstoppable as they steamrolled to a 25-14 set win.

Citrus hosts Antelope Valley next Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
