The West Valley softball team extended its winning streak to ten with a 3-2 and 5-1 sweep of a solid Feather River squad Monday in Saratoga. The Vikings (18-5, 5-0 Coast) are ranked 12th in the state, seventh in NorCal, in the latest CCCFCA poll, released today.

In the opener, Rhiannon Underhill kept the Golden Eagles (10-10, 4-2 Golden Valley) off balance all morning, getting them to hit into 14 fly-ball outs in seven innings. She picked up her 7th straight win and kept her state-leading ERA at a miniscule 0.25. Underhill set FRC down in order in the 4th, 5th and 7th.

The Vikings scored all three of their runs in a second inning highlighted by an RBI single from Abigail Desa that knocked in Reyna Cruz, who had reached on a walk. Bella Sweet capped the inning with a single that scored Kassady Alcazar, who had singled and stole second.

Isabella Gallegos put the Vikings on the board in the home half of the first in game two, driving in Emma Courtney, who was hit by the first pitch of the inning. Courtney advanced to third on sacrifices from Sweet and Sydney Heming and then came home on the Gallegos laser up the middle.

WVC sent nine batters to the plate in a four-run fifth, taking advantage of four straight hits that included RBI doubles from Courtney and Sweet and a two-run single from Gallegos. Gallegos would finish 2-3 with three RBI, while Courtney had an RBI and scored a pair of runs. Shelby White earned her seventh win of the season in the circle, striking out three and scattering seven hits in seven innings of work.
