The Porterville College offense was ready for the 2020 season to get underway. Facing Victor Valley College in a season-opening doubleheader on Friday, the Pirates totaled 27 runs over 10 innings on their way to a huge sweep of the visiting Rams.

Returning All-Northern California first baseman Kuea Angilau continued where she left off last season with a big day at the plate. In the opener, Angilau went 2 for 3 with a home run and double while driving in two runs to lead PC to a 10-0 victory.

Angilau smashed another home run in Game 2, going 2 for 3 with 3 RBI but it was returning All-CVC third baseman Annisa Gomez that stole the show. She went a perfect 4 for 4 with a pair of doubles and 3 RBI to pace the Pirates to a 17-6 win.

Freshman pitcher Ally Boyd was outstanding in her Pirate debut. She tossed a four-hit shutout for the win and went 3 for 3 at the plate with an RBI. She also earned the victory in Game 2, going 4 1/3 innings allowing one earned run and five hits. With the bat, she collected another two hits, including a double, and 2 RBI.

Freshman second baseman Veronica Bosquez went a combined 4 for 7 with a triple and 4 RBI for the Pirates in the sweep.

Porterville (2-0) will look to get the offensive show going on Saturday (Feb. 1) at noon when the Pirates host West Valley College in a non-conference doubleheader.
