Cypress Puts Up 13 Runs for Third Mercy of Season

CYPRESS, CA- Charger softball (9-2, 3-0 OEC) defeats the Saddleback Bobcats (6-6, 0-3 OEC) in mercy fashion on Thursday, 13-1.

With a blue sky, the Bobcats traveled to Cypress College for a conference face-off. Off the bat, the Chargers got the offense in the groove and scored two runs in the first inning. Leadoff hitter Emily Rush launched a ball over the fence to put the Chargers up in their first opportunity. Later in the inning, Mikala Jacobsen singled to bring home Kaitlyn Reynolds for their second run.

The second frame brought more of the same as Cypress tallied three more runs to the scoreboard. Rush earned two more RBI's off of a single where Caitlin Bowerman and Kayla Tofolla crossed the plate. Jaylene Duarte hit a sacrifice fly out to score Vanessa Correa and make it five runs for the home team.

The Bobcats managed to get a run across in the third frame but the Chargers responded with two in the bottom of the inning. Duarte hit a high fly ball that was misread and dropped that led to two more runs for the Cypress offense. In the fourth, six hits paved the way for five runs that allowed the chance for a mercy. Jacobsen hit an RBI single which was followed by a Rush single that gave her an additional two RBI's. Duarte doubled to bring in two runs and Camryn Addimando finished the Cypress runs with an RBI single. The Chargers would shut down the Saddleback bats and mercy the Bobcats in the fifth inning, 13-1.

Third baseman Rush had an impressive day at the plate as she went 3-5, scored twice and tallied five RBI's on the day. Duarte smacked two hits, touched home and brought in three RBI's. On the mound, the starter Reynolds pitched four innings, only allowed one run and struck out three while Addimando closed out the game. This is Cypress's third mercy on the year and third conference win to remain undefeated against OEC opponents.

UP NEXT: Cypress will be on the road against the Santa Ana Dons on Friday, March 3rd. First pitch will be at 2pm.
