Warriors take Game One from Bakersfield in Extras

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - It was a pitchers duel for most of the game on a cold Thursday night at Gerry Collins Field in Bakersfield but the Warriors walked away with a 3-1 win over the Renegades in the 15th inning.

Both starting pitchers were fantastic for Game One of the three-game set. For the Warriors (4-2), Jimmy Galicia labored through nine innings allowing just one run on seven hits, one walk, and struck out seven batters.

After some bullpen struggles to start the season, the bullpen was fantastic in Thursday night's series opener. The bullpen combined for six scoreless innings and just one hit allowed. Joey Acosta came in for relief of Galicia and tossed two scoreless innings. He allowed one hit, walked three, and struck out three batters. The Renegades got into scoring position in the 10th and 11th innings but Acosta was able to pitch out of it.  Kyle Hatai picked up the win after tossing three scoreless innings and facing the minimum 9 batters. Hatai struck out five batters and allowed no hits or runners on base. Neil Feist picked up the first save of his Warrior career after throwing a 1-2-3 inning to close the game in the 15th inning.

For the Renegades (2-5) Alejandro Murillo had a stellar day on the bump in a no-decision effort.  Murillo struck out 15 batters in nine innings of work. He allowed one run on just three hits and zero walks.

The Warriors bats were silent for most of the night and they only had seven hits for the game.  Four of the Warrior's hits came after the Bakersfield starter departed. Julian Diaz was the only player with a multi-hit game as he went for 2-for-5 for the day.  The Warriors batted 0-for-19 with runners on base and they stranded nine men on base for the game.

The Warriors broke a 0-0 deadlock in the 7th inning.  Aaron Orozco reached first on an error by the first basemen.  Chase Cosner made his El Camino College debut and pinch ran for Orozco.  Cosner advanced all the way to third base on an error by the pitcher and came around to score on a Tyler Wright sac fly.

Bakersfield tied the game up in the bottom of the 9th.  Galicia allowed a double with one out in the inning. He struck out the next batter and should've finished the game with a 1-0 shutout but Diego Alarcon couldn't field a slow ground ball with two outs to extend the inning.  Jacob Baker singled through the right side in the next at-bat to bring in the tying run and send the game into extra innings.

The Warriors finally broke the 1-1 tie with two runs in the 15th inning. Tyler Wright led the inning off with a base hit.  Juan Carlos Camarena reached first base on a fielder's choice after hitting a grounder to third. The Bakersfield defense got Wright into a pickle but he was able to avoid a tag and get back to third safely.  Julian Diaz was intentionally walked to load the bases before Benny Casillas worked a walk to bring in one run. Chris Villavicencio hit into a fielder's choice to bring in another run to make it a 3-1 game.

The Warriors will look to take the series win with Game Two coming tomorrow at 2:00 PM at Gerry Collins Field.
