WOMEN'S SOCCER: TRAFFIC, HEAT, AND WINNING

Fighting through gridlock traffic all the way down the 5 Freeway to Southwestern College in Chula Vista on Tuesday, the FC women's soccer team still managed to pull out a 4-3 win to open the 2019 season.

Arriving to the field with only 15 minutes to warm-up, the Hornets were not fazed as they came out scoring 3 goals in the first 30 minutes of the game.

Sophomore Regina Sanchez-Molina scored the first goal of the game in the 9th minute with the assist coming from freshman Rocio Martinez-Marquina. The second goal was a laser into the back of the net by sophomore Kaelah Basurto (22:50) with the assist by sophomore Georgia Vidal. Basurto and Vidal combined again for the third score the 29th minute.

Southwestern got on the board with a minute left in the half when the Hornets were called for a handball. Alejandra Jimenez made the best of it placing the ball in the back of the goal.

With a healthy 3-1 lead going into the second half, things got a little weird for the Hornets as they were hit with all 5 of their game yellow cards thoughout the last 45 minutes.

Fullerton fought through the cards scoring their last goal of the day on a nice pass by Sanchez-Molina that gave freshman Morgan Dack the chance to get one through the posts.

The Jaguars took advantage late scoring two goals in the final two minutes, but it was not enough to completely ruin the Hornet's day... even though they still had a long ride home back up the 5 Freeway.

Sophomore goalie Kayla Ippolito preserved the win with 7 saves in 90 minutes.

Up Next: The Hornets (1-0 overall) will have their home opener this Friday, August 30th against Mt. San Antonio College at 3:00 pm. Come on out and support the team!
