Warriors Win Big over Cougars on Sophomore Night

TORRANCE, Calif. - In a night where El Camino honored their sophomores, the Warriors posted a dominant 73-54 victory over LA Southwest on Wednesday evening in their second-to-last game and final home game of the season.  

The Warriors (12-14, 7-2) offense had four players reach double figures in scoring.  Ashley Nguyen led the offense with her second double-double of the season as she scored 17 points and racked up 10 assists on 7-for-9 shooting.  Alexia Mason had 15 points and 6 rebounds. Taylor Hart had 12 points and 5 rebounds off the bench. Sara Nguyen had 10 points and 5 rebounds.

Heather Ortuno led the Cougars (10-15, 2-5) with 25 points. Mercedes Ofoegbu had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

El Camino shot 52.5% from the field on 31-for-59 shooting. The Warriors held the Cougars to 41.7% shooting from the field (20-for-48). The Warriors had a great day on the boards as they outrebounded the Cougars, 36 to 23. 

El Camino started off the game with a blistering pace as they led 16-2 on 100% shooting in the first three minutes and 23 seconds.  At the end of the first quarter, the Warriors led 27-14. 

The Warriors outscored the Cougars 12-to-9 in the second quarter and finished the first half on top by a score of 39-23. 

The final two quarters were much closer with the Warriors outscoring the Cougars by only three points (34-to-31) as the Warriors finished off the game with a 73-54 win.

The Warriors will play their final game of the season on Friday, February 21st against Long Beach City College.  Tip-off is set for 5:00 PM.
