SAN LUIS OBISPO – The SBCC baseball team earned its third straight win on Tuesday at Cuesta, saving its best for last scoring more runs in the 11th inning than in the previous 10 for a 7-5 victory.

With their second straight 11-inning win, the Vaqueros improve to 17-11 overall and 10-5 in the WSC. The Cougars are now 17-11 overall and 13-2 in the conference.

  • SBCC tied a season-high with 14 hits, reaching double-figures for the fifth time in six outings. Shortstop Gabe Baldavino led the way with four hits and two runs.
  • Andrew McKenna went for three hits and a team-high two RBI to go along with a run.
  • Second baseman Matty Fung and right fielder Pearce Blaney both had two hits. Fung added a walk and and RBI. Blaney scored one run as well.

HOW IT HAPPENED

3rd Inning (2-0 SBCC)

  • Neither team's offense was on track early, but the Vaqueros made a splash in the top of the third. Facing two outs, Baldavino singled for his first hit of the day.
  • McKenna then provided the first big play of the day, hitting his second home run of the year to put SBCC up 2-0.

4th Inning (2-2 Tie)

  • Cuesta answered back in the fourth to tie the game. Holden Cumiskey walked and scored two at bats later on an RBI single by Dalton Cram.
  • The Cougars made it a 2-2 ballgame as Cram scored on an Ethan Royal single against two outs.

7th-8th Innings (3-3 Tie)

  • Baldavino helped put SBCC back ahead in the top of the seventh. After a leadoff single, Blaney advanced to second on an Owen Crevelt sac bunt. Soon after, Baldavino hit a single and Blaney scored on a Cougar error to make it 3-2.
  • Cuesta was held hitless in the seventh and had just one hit in the eighth, but it was enough to bring them level again. Zach Tallerman's double later turned into a run on a sac fly by Mattias Sessing.

11th Inning (7-5 SBCC)

  • After a quiet next few innings offensively, SBCC exploded for four runs in the 11th, all coming after the second out. Tyler Imbach led off with a walk, and several at bats later, gave the Vaqueros a 5-4 lead on a Carson Cahoy single.
  • Baldavino then started putting the cherry on top for his big offensive day, hitting a big double as Cahoy scored to double the lead. Baldavino eventually scored on an RBI walk by Fung.
  • Isaiah Fleming scored the Vaqueros' last run to make it 7-3, as Max Porter was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
  • With a big hole to dig themselves out of, the Cougars gave it their best shot, picking up three straight hits to start the bottom half of the inning.
  • The home side loaded the bases and came up with an RBI walk of its own. However, Vaquero pitcher Colby Downard entered and helped pick up the final out on a pop up, leaving three runners on base.
