In a rare noon game, the Cerritos College softball team scored seven runs in the first inning, which led them to a 10-0, 5-inning victory over Pasadena City College. The South Coast Conference win improved the Falcons to 4-2, while they are now 12-4 overall. The team will host Rio Hondo College at 3:00 p.m. next Tuesday.

Cerritos received three walks in that first inning, with all three coming around to score. After freshman Alyssa Sotelo (El Rancho HS) led off with a single, freshman catcher Vicky Najera (El Rancho HS) and freshman shortstop Miranda Diaz (California HS) both drew walks to load the bases. Consecutive run-scoring singles from freshman first baseman Richere Leduc (California HS) and freshman designated player Maddy Guillen (La Puente HS) got the team on the scoreboard. After the first out was recorded, freshman outfielder Negasse Williams (Aliso Niguel HS) followed with an RBI single, with freshman outfielder Angelica Gonzalez (Sierra Vista HS) bringing home the third run with a bases loaded walk.

A pitching change by the Lancers didn't faze freshman outfielder Alyssa Capps (Downey HS), who slapped a two-run single up the middle. The final run came on a sacrifice fly from Najera.

That was more than enough offense for freshman starting pitcher Samantha Islas (Roosevelt HS), who pitched the first two innings before freshman Courtney Callison (Santa Fe HS) came on to throw the final three innings. Callison, who earned the win, retired nine of the 10 batters she faced, while the Lancers put a pair of runners on base against Islas in the first two innings.

Freshman third baseman Brooklyn Bedolla (Mayfair HS) crushed a two-run home run in the second inning, while a wild pitch in the third inning allowed freshman pinch-runner Emily Zuniga (Warren HS) to score.

Sotelo, Leduc, Guillen and Williams all had a pair of hits for the Falcons, while Diaz and Gonzalez both reached base twice on walks.
