Women’s Volleyball Snaps Skid with Five-Set Win over L.A. Harbor

TORRANCE, Calif. --- El Camino College snapped its six-match losing streak in dramatic fashion with a 3-2 (24-26, 25-21, 25-18, 23-25, 15-10) South Coast Conference victory over visiting L.A. Harbor Wednesday night at the ECC Gymnasium.

Brea Rutledge, who set a new career high with 25 kills on Tuesday against Orange Coast, eclipsed that mark one night later as she smashed down 27 kills on 66 swings to lead the Warriors offensively. Rutledge was the only Warriors player in double figures but it proved to be enough.

The Warriors (3-8, 1-1) also had  great night from the service line with 16 aces, led by Saki Yamamoto with four. Athina Sarreas, Crystal Salgado and Rutledge each added three and Jayden Zabala had two.

Zabala, Rutledge and Nofoali'I Selu all posted double-doubles for the Warriors as Rutledge had 15 digs while Zabala had 18 assists and 12 digs. Selu dished out 17 assists with 11 digs.

Ginia Goods patrolled the net for the Warriors with five blocks (one solo) and Adelynn Abrams added four in the victory.

Aiyana Henderson led the Seahawks (3-5, 0-2) with 19 kills and Mya Johnson had 12 with 10 digs.

The Warriors will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 22 with a non-conference road game at Mount San Jacinto. First serve is set for 5 p.m.

The Warriors were originally scheduled to face Compton on Friday at the ECC Gym but that game has been postponed with a make-up date to be determined.
