PANTHERS GET THIRD WIN IN TWO DAYS WITH 12-4 DEFEAT OF IRVINE
The men won their fourth consecutive game today, their third in two days, with a 12-4 home victory over Irvine Valley College. Chaffey took an early lead putting four across the plate in quick succession in the fourth. Beginning with bases loaded and two outs, Nathan Rodriguez was hit by a pitch advancing Darren Taylor. Jeovanni Delgado and Jared Bujanda then came up with RBI singles giving the Panthers a 4-0 lead. Single runs in the 3rd, 4th and 5th put the board at 7-1 but it was a five run rally in the 6th that clinched the game for Chaffey.
Again with bases loaded, Darren Taylor doubled for two more RBIs then Daniel Mendez tripled for two more. A sac fly by Jason DuMont brought in Mendez for the Panthers' final run of the game. Irvine rallied in the final inning to score 3 and end the game at 12-4.
"We saw what we needed to see today," commented Head Coach Mike Cordero. "Our bats came alive it all just came together out there. Taylor had a great day (4 runs, 3 hits, 2 RBIs). He is the key to our lineup and he showing flashes of what he can do this season."
Ryan Buckley put up 86 pitches in five innings. "Buck is starting to settle down and is emerging as a legitimate starter. I'm really happy with the performance of our pitching staff these last five games."
"We're beginning to play Chaffey Baseball with aggressive base running and defence."
The Panthers are on the road Tuesday at Glendale and return to Lowder Field Friday to take on Long Beach City.
