Softball Makes School History; Advances to State Championships

Oroville, Calif. - The second-seeded Butte softball team edged 10th-seeded Folsom Lake, 3-2, to make school history and advance to the CCCAA State Championships on Saturday afternoon. The team is riding a 35-game winning streak heading into the state tournament, hosted by Bakersfield College.

Folsom Lake struck first, scoring in the top of the fourth frame, but the Roadrunners quickly answered back, taking a 2-1 lead going into the fifth. The Falcons knotted things up in the fifth, but a fielding error by Folsom Lake with freshman Ashley Carbah on base with a leadoff double, gave the Roadrunners the go-ahead score which held behind the arm of freshman Kiya Hamar.

Carbah went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and scoring the game-winning run. Freshman Savannah Wahl recorded a RBI-double in her 2-for-3 outing, while freshman Grace Stearns also went 2-for-3 with a RBI-single.

Hamar improved to 7-0 in the circle, tossing a four-hitter over 3.2 innings pitched with a pair of strikeouts. Freshman Maggie Smith opened the game, throwing 3.1 innings, allowing only three hits and a run.

Butte (43-1) boasts the best record in the state heading into the CCCAA Championships. The team will be the No. 2 seed from the North, playing the No. 3 seed from the South on Thursday, May 19 at 8 p.m.
