Renegades Rebounds with Victory Over Long Beach City College

Bakersfield, CA – Avoiding a possible team-wide letdown after hearing the news earlier in the week that three of the Bakersfield College football team's wins were erased due to self-reported forfeitures, the Renegades prevailed and defeated the Long Beach City Vikings 28-14 at Memorial Stadium.

After a scoreless first quarter, a Vikings 33-yard pick six interception of quarterback Dexter Frampton's pass and successful extra point gave Long Beach a 7-0 lead at the 10:47 mark of the second quarter. The score remained the same going into halftime.

Just two minutes into the third quarter, BC scored on a 6-yard Frampton to sophomore Isaac Jernagin touchdown pass. Freshman Peter Delis' extra point was no good and the Gades trailed 7-6.

Bakersfield would take the lead in the game on a 39-yard Frampton to freshman Jalen Blizzard touchdown at 8:46 in the third. The Renegades recovered from their earlier loss of extra points with a successful two-point conversion, giving the Gades a 14-7 lead. It was a lead BC would not surrender.

The Renegades extended their lead to 21-7 on a three-play, 55-yard drive capped by running back Antonio Robinson's 22-yard rushing touchdown at 7:13 in the fourth quarter. Long Beach pulled within seven points of the Gades on a 29-yard rushing touchdown with 5:45 remaining in the game.

Trailing 21-14, the Vikings drove toward a potential tying score with under two minutes remaining when BC's defense came up big. Safety Jaylan Lawson picked off an LBCC pass at Bakersfield's 3-yard line and sprinted for a 93-yard touchdown with 1:06 remaining in the game for the final scoring drive of the night.

The Renegades (2-5,1-2) will play their final home game of the season against East Los Angeles on Saturday, November 6 for military appreciation night. Kickoff will begin at 6 pm.
