Citrus College took on No. 14-ranked Ventura College in non-conference action Monday but couldn't keep the Pirates in check with a 12-2 loss in five innings.

The Owls slip to 11-11, while the Pirates improve to 16-2-1 on the year.

Ventura struck first and built a 4-0 lead before Citrus drove two runs in off a Desiree Loza single up the middle in the bottom of the second, cutting the margin in half, 4-2.

The Pirates broke the game wide open in the fourth, plating eight runs to all but put the game away.

Citrus looks to shake it off as it returns to conference action on Thursday when Antelope Valley College comes to town at 2:30 p.m. The Owls' contest at Glendale College originally scheduled for Tuesday has been postponed to April 5 due to forecasted rain.
