Baseball Edged by Skyline in Series Opener

San Bruno, Calif. - In a contest that saw four lead changes, the Butte baseball team was edged by Skyline, 9-7, in the three-game series opener on Thursday afternoon.

Sophomore Evan Stauch tallied the team's first RBI on a single in the first to score sophomore leadoff batter Cole Arnold, who capitalized on a pair of errors to get into scoring position.

Despite losing the lead in the bottom half of the frame, the Roadrunners chipped away at Skyline's lead, taking over the lead again in top of the seventh with a 7-5 edge behind a two-run homer by sophomore Aidan Moore and a RBI-double by sophomore Patrick Barry - the only extra base hits for Butte. But Skyline tacked on four runs after the seventh-inning strech and held on to take the contest.

Sophomore Jake Agarwal led the Butte offense with a 3-for-5 outing with a run, while freshman Jason Olsen went 1-for-2 with a walk, stolen base, and scoring three runs.

On the mound, sophomore Carson Seeman started for the Roadrunners, tossing four complete. He scattered six hits, allowing four earned runs, while fanning three. Sophomore Caleb Schaeffer (0-1) was charged with the loss after 1.1 innings pitched, allowing a pair of earned runs.

Butte (4-1) faces Skyline in game two of the series on Friday, Feb. 3 at 1 p.m.
