COD Baseball beats back the Panthers with late rally, 9-6

COD (9-7; 2-0) started a chipping away at an early hole, then some heroics at the plate and on the mound kept the Roadrunners undefeated in Conference play, as they knocked off the Chaffey Panthers of Rancho Cucamonga (6-11; 1-1), 9-6.

COD is currently riding a four game winning streak and this is the first time Desert has defeated Chaffey in Baseball since February 26, 2015. On that date, they defeated the Panthers, 5-1.

Freshman third baseman Spencer Dickinson (Rancho Mirage H.S.) went 2 for 3 with his third home run of the season, scoring three runs, walking twice and snagging a run batted in out of the five hole in the lineup.

Freshman left fielder Joeseph Jimenez (Palm Desert H.S.) went 1 for 2 with three runs scored and two walks out of the six hole in the lineup and sophomore second baseman Dalton Thomas (Wenatchee, WA) went 2 for 5 out of the leadoff spot.

Sophomore designated hitter Jaxon Millet (Bethel, CT) went 2 for 3 with his second double of the year, scoring once with three RBI's and a pair of walks out of the seven hole in the lineup and freshman right fielder Brian Parry (Redlands H.S.) went 2 for 4 with a run scored and two RBI's out of the nine hole in the lineup.

Freshman right handed starting pitcher Kenneth Schechter (Newtonville (MA) Newton North) tossed four innings, allowed four runs, all earned, on six hits, walking four and striking out five in his first start since February 5th.

Freshman right handed relief pitcher Beto Beltran (Indio Shadow Hills) grabbed his second win of 2022, tossing four innings, surrendering one run, which was earned, on four hits, striking out five and freshman right handed relief pitcher Marco Calderon-Lopez (Indio H.S.) collected his second save of 2022, throwing an inning, giving up a run, which was earned and two walks.

The next game for College of the Desert Baseball will be at the Barstow Vikings on March 3rd at 2p. The next home game for the Roadrunners will be on Saturday, March 5 at 1p, where Desert will continue Inland Empire Athletics Conference (IEAC) play by hosting the Victor Valley Rams of Victorville.
