No. 8 Softball Opens GVC Play With Sweep of Feather River

Oroville, Calif. - The No. 8 Butte softball team captured a pair of wins over Feather River, 6-3 and 7-1, on Friday afternoon to open Golden Valley Conference play.

In game one, freshman Ella Jolley made her one hit of the game count, with a three-run walkoff homer to lift the Roadrunners to the win from a 3-0 deficit. Sophomore Alexis Detwiler counted the team's first RBI on a sacrifice fly in the sixth with freshman Faith Epperson counting a two-RBI single to knot the game up at three apiece in the seventh before Jolley's home run.

Sophomore Kiya Hamar picked up the win in the circle, entering the game in the third inning and throwing a one-hitter through 4.2 innings pitched.

The second game was drastically different for the Roadrunners with the team jumping out to a quick 7-0 lead through four complete. Detwiler went 2-for-4 with a double and home run and two RBI with sophomore Hayley Sites also counting a three-run bomb. Sophomore Maggie Smith went 3-for-3, while Jolley and sophomore Grace Stearns each tallied a pair of hits.

In the circle, Smith (7-3) also counted the complete-game win, allowing only two hits with a pair of strikeouts.

Butte (14-5, 2-0) continues GVC action at home, hosting Siskiyous on Saturday, Mar. 18 in a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
