Mounties lose to Richland (Texas), finish third in Mt. SAC Nike/Azteca Tournament

(Walnut, CA) Richland College of Texas (3-0-1) handed Mt. SAC (2-1) its first loss of the season, 3-1, to capture the 2021 Mt. SAC Nike/Azteca Tournament championship on Sunday.

The Thunderducks scored each of their goals in the first half while the Mounties scored their lone goal in the 49th minute when Anthony Vargas scored on an assist from Paul Iniguez.

In 90 minutes, goalie Jacob Cardenas made five saves for Mt. SAC while allowing three goals.

Santa Ana College (1-1-1) took second place in the tournament and the Mounties finished third.

Mt. SAC returns to action at Santiago Canyon (1-0) on Monday, Sept. 13, at 3 p.m.
