Eagle Baseball Team Sweeps Porterville in Three Game Set

The MSJC baseball team traveled to Porterville on Thursday and Friday and won three games against the Pirates.

The Eagle offense exploded on Thursday as they pounded out 15 hits and jumped out to an 8-0 lead after the opening inning to cruise to a 21-0 victory.  Will Potter had a huge game for MSJC as he drove in 6 runs with a homerun and a triple in the game.  Jaden Jones, Phoenix Sommay, Andre Torres, and Ross Panlasigui all had 2 RBIs for the Eagles.  Sommay, Jones, and Ryan Grinnals all had three hits.  Demetrius Vizcarra was solid on the mound as he went 5 shut out innings allowing just 2 hits to earn the victory, Andrew Rivero finished the game off with 2 perfect innings while recording 3 strike outs.

In the first game of Friday's doubleheader the Eagles again got on the board in the first inning with a single run, they would add 3 in the thrird, 2, in the fourth, and one more in the fifth on their way to a 7-1 win.  Robert Jacobsen drove in a game high 3 runs in that one while Jones had a game best three hits.  Ethan Van Scoy earned the pitching victory going 5 impressive innings in which he gave up just two hits and struck out 10 while walking just one.  Garrett Teunissen pitched the final 2 innings for the Eagles.

In the final game of the series the Eagles once again got solid pitching as Derek Ryan turned in 6 innings of work allowing just one earned run and striking out 7.  Nolan LaChappa and Brock Robarts each threw one shut out inning, before Chris Scovel came in to earn the save in the 9th with a three up three down inning to preserve the 4-1 victory.  Grinnals, Sommay, DJ Graham, and Brody Brown each had an RBI for MSJC.

The Eagles are now 4-1-1 on the season and will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Imperial Valley at 2 pm.
