Chargers Use the Long Ball to Take Down Saddleback, 8-3

CYPRESS, CA- The Cypress Chargers (8-1, 4-0 OEC) hosted Saddleback College on Tuesday afternoon (6-3, 3-1 OEC) to begin a four game series. The Chargers hit three home runs on their way to victory as they outlasted Saddleback, 8-3. 

Andrew Sojka (2 for 2, 2BB, 1RBI) did his job in the leadoff spot for the Chargers reaching base in all four of his plate appearances. Brenden Harris (2 for 4, 1HR, 3RBI's) sparked the Chargers scoring run with his third homerun of the season. Brett Garcia (5.0 IP, 2ER, 4K) got the start on the mound for the Chargers and pitched well in his third start of the season. Mario Tostado (1 for 3) got the start behind the plate for Cypress and launched his second home run in as many games. Nation Wood (2 for 4) and Johnathan Behm (1 for 3) each knocked in a run for Saddleaback. Matt Comnos of Saddleback threw over 100 pitches as he lasted six innings striking out six. 

The Chargers fell behind in the third inning when Nation Wood singled to right field scoring Danilo Tiotuico for the first run of the game. Johnathan Behm followed up with a single of his own followed by an error on catcher, Mario Tostado, pushing the Saddleback lead to 3-0. Cypress fought to answer back, but their first run did not come until the fifth inning when Andrew Sojka hit a solo shot over the right field wall to tally the first run for the Chargers. Brenden Harris knotted the game up at three with a monster shot to center field in the bottom half of the sixth inning. The Chargers got their first lead of the game in the sixth inning with a flurry of runs. Cypress scored five runs in the seventh beginning with a Coby Morales double off the left field wall. Brenden Harris tallied his third RBI of the game with a single to center field. Pitcher, Raul Herrada, threw three innings in relief striking out three and giving up no runs. Colton Bulger made quick work of the ninth inning inning putting down three in a row to seal the Chargers victory, 8-3. 

UP NEXT: The Chargers will face Saddleback again on Thursday at Cypress College. First pitch for the Chargers will be at 2pm.
