Falcons Sweep Los Medanos to Open BVC Play

Pittsburg, Calif. - The Solano softball team started of Bay Valley Conference play strong, sweeping Los Medanos, 10-0 and 22-4 (five innings), on Tuesday afternoon.

In game one, freshman Maleah Martinez tossed a one-hitter with 12 strikeouts to earn the complete-game shutout. Offensively, freshman Naiya Watts and Jayden Sola both earned extra-base hits with Watts counting a double and Sola earning a triple. Freshman Avarie Mendez entered the game at shortstop, and she earned a 2-for-2 outing with a pair of runs.

In the second contest, Watts and freshman Chasidy Ramirez combined for seven of the team's 12 hits with Watts going a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate. Watts added three runs and a RBI, while Ramirez posted a 3-for-4 performance with four runs scored and six RBI, adding a double. Between freshmen Kiera Edwards and Kourtney Patrick in the circle, the Falcons only allowed two earned runs while each pitched a one-hitter.

Solano (8-14, 2-0) remains on the road, heading to San Mateo next on Saturday, Mar. 26 for a 12 p.m. game.
