Softball: Roadrunners sweep doubleheader at Southwestern

CHULA VISTA – Rio Hondo College totaled 17 runs and 23 hits over two games to sweep a non-conference doubleheader at Southwestern College on Saturday.

Lourdes Soria (2 for 4) and Heaven Wolf (1 for 4) both drove in two runs each to lead the Roadrunners at the plate in a 10-3 victory the opener. A seven-run, fourth-inning proved to be the difference in the win.

Arianna Amezcua went 3 for 4 while Kaylie Cervantes (2 for 4, 2 runs) and Alexia Mayorga (2 for 4, 2 runs, RBI) both collected two hits each.

Clarissa Evangelista picked up the complete-game win after scattering 12 hits over seven innings. She allowed three runs and struck out six.

Rio Hondo put together another big inning in Game 2, scoring five runs in the third inning on its way to a 7-5 win to close out the sweep.

Lourdes Espinosa (1 for 4) drove in two runs while Cervantes (2 for 3, 2 runs, RBI), Alexis Rivera (2 for 3, run, RBI), and Heaven Wolf (2 for 4, run) all had two hits.

Lourdes Soria went the distance for the win. She allowed five runs and nine hits over seven innings.

Rio Hondo has now won four straight games and improved to 13-7 overall. The Roadrunners return to action on Tuesday (Mar. 22) when they travel to College of the Desert for a 5 p.m. non-conference game.
