Bobcats beat Olympians for 3-0 start

The Saddleback baseball team improved to 3-0 with an 8-4 win against San Diego Mesa College on Thursday at Doug Fritz Field.  The Bobcats had a big day from Michael Davinni in the win.

Davinni (pictured) started the scoring for Saddleback in the bottom of the first inning when he hit a 393-foot homer to left-center field to put the Bobcats up 2-0.  It was just the beginning of things for Davinni, who finished 4-for-5 with four RBI and three runs-scored in the win.

Saddleback blew the game wide open in the bottom half of the fourth inning when they scored five times for an 8-1 lead.  The Bobcats did all of it with two outs, registering three hits and two bases-on-balls with two outs in the inning in rallying for five runs.  Right in the middle of the rally was another hit from Davinni, who singled home both Johnathan Behm and Danilo Tiotuico to give the Bobcats a 6-1 lead.  Two batter later Davinni scored after Cole Koniarsky had a two-run single, scoring both Davinni and Jordan Dissin.

Connor Wilford started on the mound for Saddleback and pitched 4.2 innings of work in improving to 2-0 for the year.  Wilford struck out three while surrendering one earned-run before reaching an early-season pitch count.  Wilford gave way to a bullpen that included Joshua Meekins, Dylan Singh, Ryan Cullinane and Wilson Hall.  The most effective was Cullinane, who struck out four in 2.2 innings of work after Mesa had cut the Saddleback lead to 8-4.

Saddleback (3-0) will host Moorpark College (1-4) on Friday at 2:00 PM.
