Offense Erupts as Warriors Trounce Southwestern

TORRANCE, Calif. --- El Camino College found its offense Saturday afternoon with a 13-3 non-conference victory over visiting Southwestern at Warrior Field.

The Warriors (7-2) had nine hits and scored a season-high 13 runs just two days after suffering an upset loss at home.

Ben Griffin continued his torrid start to the 2022 campaign as he went 2-for-5 with a walk, two RBI and two runs scored. He has recorded a hit in all nine of the Warriors games so far this season and is batting .385 with a .455 on-base percentage to start his Warriors career.

Cain Lusic also tallied two hits including his first home run of the season, a two-run 375-foot bomb over the left field fence in the fourth inning. It would ignite a six-run frame by the Warriors that helped them put the game out of reach.

Other standouts for ECC included Daniel Murillo (2-for-4, two runs, one RBI) and Jorge Renteria (1-for-4, three RBI).

AJ Hiestand recorded the win on the bump for ECC after going five innings and allowing just two runs, one earned, on six hits. He walked one and struck out three.

For the Jaguars (4-4), Raden Perry took the loss after allowing six runs, five earned, on five hits in three innings of work.

The Warriors actually trailed 2-0 heading into the bottom of the third inning after the Jaguars scored in the first inning and added an unearned run in the third on a passed ball.

But ECC erupted for four runs on an RBI fielder's choice and two RBI singles with the bases loaded to take a 4-2 lead.

The team then added six more in the fourth to put the game away and capped off the day with three runs in the eighth for good measure.

The Warriors will head to Cypress on Tuesday for their next game before returning to Warrior Field on Friday to face Chaffey followed by another Saturday contest next week against L.A. Mission.
