Softball Gets Back on Track with Six Inning Win over LA Valley

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College softball team bounced back with a decisive victory over LA Valley College at home on Thursday afternoon. | BOX SCORE

The Bulldogs (9-5) got off to a hot start after posting seven unanswered runs through the first three frames of action. Briana Munoz got the rally started with an RBI triple and then scored after Xchelle Glidewell's sacrifice fly to close out the first inning. In the second frame, a double to right-center by Alyssa Jones plated two while a Monarchs error allowed one run to score. Lisette Coria rounded out the early frenzy with a triple to right-center that scored a pair in the third frame.

LA Valley (2-11) attempted a late comeback with three tallies over the final two frames, but a four-run showing for the Bulldogs in the bottom of the sixth ended play early. Munoz started the scoring stint with a single up the middle, plating one, before being brought home on an RBI single from Antoinette Terrones just two batters later. Terrones made her way home later in the inning after capitalizing on another LA Valley fielding error. Abigail Salazar closed the contest with a walk-off RBI that scored the final runner needed to enact the mercy rule.

Coria and Munoz led the Bulldogs at the plate after they both registered two hits and three RBIs apiece. Jones and Madison Gamble also registered multiple hits and both joined Mya Mendoza on the doubles train.

Munoz also collected her sixth win of the season in the circle after tossing a complete game. She struck out four batters and allowed three earned runs after scattering five hits.

The Bulldogs are set to return to action on Thursday, March 10th, against Santa Monica College. The first pitch is scheduled for 2:30 PM at the AHC Softball Field.
