Women's Beach remain undefeated through 7 games

The amount of rain in Southern California has done nothing to slow down the San Diego Mesa beach volleyball team. Not only are they undefeated with a perfect 7-0 record, they are simply dominating. In the last five games, the Olympians have only dropped one set.

"This team definitely has the ability to dominate and they have come a long way since last season," states head coach Kim Lester. "We've been experimenting and trying different combinations early, and we're still making adjustments. Our line-up 1 through 5, I believe, is the strongest we've ever fielded."

Accountability and being present are words that Lester emphasizes to the team. It serves as a friendly reminder to not let distractions get in the way of the team goal, which is the state championship.  "We need to hold each other accountable for being truly present for each other and letting outside distractions go," adds Lester.  "Coming off a conference championship, followed by qualifying for state was a great accomplishment. We've created an amazing culture of positiveness and now that we have that taste of success, we want to do it again, but with even better results."

As expected, the play of Austia Mendiola and Sophia Jarosz have been impressive. Mendiola has found her joy in playing beach volleyball and is playing more free, which leads to great chemistry between the two.  Mendiola and Jarosz finished 8th in the state and are eager to finish even higher this season.
