Southern Regional Brackets Set in Fight for State Berth

WOMEN
(1) Santa Barbara (27-5) pulls the top seed out of the south after an impressive season that saw wins over top 10 teams featuring No. 2 West Valley, No. 3 Orange Coast, No. 5 Riverside, No. 6 San Joaquin Delta, No. 7 Long Beach, No. 8 Saddleback and No. 9 Golden West. They ended the season on a 10 game winning streak with commanding wins over Citrus (20-9) and Ventura (20-2).
Leading the team is sophomore Jenna Olson who has netted 73 goals and pocketed 50 steals. She has scored in all but two games she has played while scoring three or more goals in 15 games. She scored a season-high six goals in their third game of the season against No. 2 West Valley. Sophomore Eden Tal follows with 61 goals, while freshman Claire Daland is nipping at her heals with 60 scores.
The Vaqueros will await the winner of (8) Mt. San Antonio and (9) Ventura.
(2) Orange Coast (24-4), who defeated (4) Fullerton in the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Championship game in eight overtime periods, earned the second seed after an impressive season that saw multiple wins over top ranked teams. Their foe was Fullerton who they lost to in back to back games leading into the tournament, but they earned sweet revenge when it mattered the most. Aside from their two losses to the Hornets, they held 16 game winning streak and who 19 of their last 21 showdowns.
Sophomore Destiney Hernandez leads the team with 63 goals to go along with 31 steals. Freshman Julian Duwe follows closely behind with 59 goals, 37 assists and 24 steals. Sophomore Natalia Stanard rounds out the players with 50 or more goals after finishing the regular season with 56 netters. Freshman Annabelle Sherman ranks top five in the state with 252 saves.
(3) Long Beach (19-10) rounds out the top three after winning their conference tournament in commanding fashion featuring a 24-1 win over El Camino and a 23-1 win over East Los Angeles. Long Beach, who is ranked seventh in the CCCWPCA polls, ended the season on a four game winning streak.
It is an offense by committee for the Vikings with six players tallying 30 or more goals throughout the season. Leading the way is sophomore Sydney Brouwer with 40 total to go along with 22 assists and 26 steals. Freshman Katie Juarez shares the team lead with 40 steals, while sophomore Carlotta Zandall has hummed home 37 goals, tallied 23 steals and notched 21 assists.
(4) Fullerton (27-4) rounds out the teams with first-round byes after narrowly missing another conference championship. The Hornets were nearly untouchable in the beginning by starting the season on an 18-1 start featuring wins over Santa Barbara, Riverside, Orange Coast and Long Beach.
Sophomore Nikki Salerno leads the squad with 72 goals and is second with 52 steals. She has scored in all but two games and has scored four or more goals in eight games. Sophomore Adrianna Wong leads her team with 53 steals while also tallying 51 assists and 69 goals. Sophomore Jordyn Lughart leads the team with 52 steals to prove there are multiple weapons in the water.
Some strong opening round play will ensue starting at 8 a.m. with (8) Mt. SAC and (9) Ventura, followed by (5) Riverside and (12) Cuesta.
(7) Saddleback and (10) Cypress will meet again at 11:30 a.m., backed by the final women's game featuring (6) Golden West and (11) Palomar at 12:45 p.m.
MEN
(1) Golden West (22-3) cruised in the conference championships to tally their 33rd consecutive title. Their lone two-year loss was to West Valley while the other two came at the hands of Division I Long Beach State and Pepperdine. They finished the season on a 12-game winning streak with the score differential in all games being six or more.
There is no specific player that you should key on due to the absolute dominance from top to bottom. Leading the away is sophomore Eamon Hennessey with 56 goals and 27 steals. Freshman Alec Johnson follows with 44 goals and 63 drawn ejections, while freshman Felipe Ferreira follows with 39 scores, 32 steals and 33 steals.
(2) Cuesta (26-6) comes in as the second overall seed after by defeating LA valley in the conference championship game. They have won 16 of their last 17 two-year showdowns after falling to Golden West early in the season. Their last two wins were against top No. 4 LA Valley.
The Northcutt brothers are leading the way as Johnny Northcutt and Jordan Northcutt lead the Cougars with 57 goals, while Jor. Northcutt paces the squad with 54 ejections drawn. Sophomore Dean moody follows with 52 scores, 39 assists, 35 drawn ejections and 33 steals.
(3) Long Beach (20-8) rounds out the top three seeds after winning yet another conference title. They edged out (8) Cerritos, 13-11, after defeating El Camino, 22-10. They have won seven of their last eight games against two-year schools with one lost to top-seeded Cuesta.
Sophomore Nicolas Fedotov and freshman Michael Minera sharwed the team high in goals with 48, while Fedotov has pocketed 29 steals. Sophomore Harry Petersen has hummed home 38 goals, while sophomore Nikola Jancic has swiped a team-high 32 steals along with firing home 33 goals.
(4) Saddleback (20-7) was one win away from earning a conference title after falling to the top-seeded Golden West on championship Saturday. As a team, they rank sixth in goals scored and held a 10-game winning streak in the middle of their season with wins over Orange Coast, Diablo Valley, and Mt. San Antonio.
Leading the charge is player of the year frontrunner Donald Robertson who paces the state with 146 goals and 175 total points. He has scored in every game this year highlighted by an 11-goal outburst in a win over Fullerton. He has netted five or more goals in 17 games and eight or more goals in five games. He was named the week four CCCWPCA player of the week. Sophomore Alec Isaacman leads his team with 49 assists and follows with 76 goals, while sophomore Carson Williams has netted an even 50 goals on the season.
(8) Cerritos and (9) Mt. San Antonio will kick things off on Thursday at 2 p.m., followed by (7) Riverside and (10) Grossmont at 3:15 pm.
